Septum and smiley piercing help?

Well Im going to pierce my septum with a safety pin and I just want to know how to get the pin out and jewelry in? U know. Like am I suppose to wait an hour then take the pin out and put the jewelry in really quick. Or pierce or it then line up the jewerly and the pin and slide the pin Out and jewelry in. Or something else? And don’t be like “well that’s dumb to do it Urself”. Im doing it no matter what. And this is called yahoo ANSWERS not yahoo criticism. And I also have a question about smiley piercings. I’ve read that they ruin ur teeth and gums. And migrate in 1-3 months. Is this true? Thanks(; if u need more of and explanation or don’t understand the question. Just tell me and I’ll elaborate more in the additional details. (:

Despite your disclaimer, I implore you to not pierce your septum yourself, especially without proper piercing equipment. This is one of those piercings that is tricky to do even for professional piercers, because there’s a likely chance that it will get crooked (at least, that’s what my piercer told me and got me all freaked out. Came out fine, though sometimes I still wonder..) Anyway, just looking at your face head-on in a mirror won’t allow you to see all the angles that a piercer will.

The first commenter seems to have done it successfully. Doesn’t mean it’s a good idea.

Also, smileys are not guaranteed to migrate. There’s a chance they will because of the nature of the skin inside your mouth. There’s a greater chance that they’ll get ripped out by accident, which happens all the time. Most piercings that come into contact with your teeth will do a certain degree of damage to them, as well as to the gums if they are rubbing or irritating them constantly. My best advice would be just to do your research and use your discretion. Smileys are – cute – whatever, but I guarantee you won’t think so for longer than five years, max. Same goes for septum rings.. no one leaves them in forever. If you incur any long-term damage over something that you know you’re going to end up taking out, you will indefinitely regret it in the future.
